The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently directed The Chairman, Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, that they shall also ensure to keep a vigil on the act and conduct of the present petitioner who is advocate, henceforth any similar offence is committed by the petitioner, then appropriate disciplinary action be taken against him earlier the present petitioner was booked in 2019 for allegedly posting an objectionable message against Hindu deities on a DBA WhatsApp group.
Justice Kuldeep Tiwari passed the order of quashing the First Information Report (FIR) against the lawyer Pritpaljit Singh Sangha after the complainant, also an advocate, compromised the matter with the accused. The Court quashed the order subject to payment of ₹50,000 costs by Sangha to the Bar Council. Court warned that if the cost is not deposited, the relief of quashing would stand vacated.
Pritpaljit Singh Sangha was booked on the complaint of Ashok Sareen by the Punjab Police who alleged that the former had posted a derogatory and insulting message in a group ‘DBA Hoshiarpur’ to outrage the religious beliefs of Hindu community.
